Lights out?
Experience the captivating hand-colored images of Daniel Newcomb's Downtown Dreams series, called Lights Out. Each image has been thoughtfully selected and skillfully colored to revive the vibrant neons and signage that evoke a sense of nostalgia. This collection is just a glimpse of over 30 years dedicated to exploring the world's forgotten architectural treasures. Since 1989, I have passionately pursued this project, driven by the desire to preserve what we often overlook. In America, we have a tendency to cover or demolish our historical sites, replacing them with generic, uninspired buildings. My goal is to artistically honor these structures, ensuring they remain alive in our collective memory. They serve as a reminder for us and for future generations.
As Jack Kerouac wisely expressed, "I realized these were all the snapshots which our children would look at someday with wonder...." This series captures moments in time through both film and digital photography, utilizing formats that include 35mm, 120, and 4x5. Don't miss the chance to reconnect with our architectural heritage through this vivid artistic journey.
